Technical Translation Services: Case Study
Echo International’s translations enable gas from Russia’s Sakhalin Island to make it to its Japan and Mexico destinations.
Challenge
How can an enormous amount of documents be translated under tight deadlines?
No one likes to miss a deadline. But since the water surrounding the final destination for Elliot’s equipment freezes in the winter, shipments can only go through during Russia’s three summer months. That means the equipment - with all its CAD drawings and documentation translated into English and Russian - absolutely could not be late.
Approach
Project management and round-the-clock translations make it happen.
In order to achieve immediacy in communication, technical translation teams with CAD skills were located in more than one time zone. This enabled documents to be translated around the clock. One project manager worked with the translation team and the client to enable a smooth transition of files.
Solution
International teamwork is combined with technology for time efficiencies.
- Teamwork. Four linguists worked on the documents with two Qcers reviewing the file layout after the linguistic translation and editing was completed.
- Cross time zones. Translators were used in various time zones; enabling Echo International to turnaround documents in as fast as 18 hours.
- Technology. Fully developed glossaries were used, ensuring consistency throughout all documentation.
- Expandable staff. Additional translators were added to the team so Echo International could deal with production delays and still respond quickly.
Results
Translated documents enable equipment to enter Russia.
A feeling of accomplishment was felt across the globe. The equipment shipped on time and Elliot’s client was extremely pleased with the translations.
